Plaza Mayor
The other square, which is within walking distance of Puerta del Sol Square and which I place at the top of the list of places to visit in Madrid, is Plaza Mayor.
If you compare it with Sol Square, you will feel a difference when you come here. Plaza Mayor is also a very lively and touristic square, but its historical aspect is more dominant. The simple but attractive red buildings surrounding the square display a very aesthetic appearance. In the middle of the square, III. Felipe has a bronze equestrian statue.
In addition, it is possible to find many traditional stores/shops in and around the square. If you do not want to return empty-handed, this is one of the places you can choose to shop.
Throughout its historical periods dating back to the 16th century, the Plaza Mayor has been the scene of a wide variety of events, from bullfights to football matches, from market places to executions.
It is very difficult not to get caught up in the rising energy of the square, which is one of the places where you will experience Spain the most, especially in the evenings. Do not leave Madrid without seeing this square.

If you want to find yourself right in the heart of Madrid as soon as you step out of your hotel, you can consider staying in the surrounding hotels. Petit Palace Plaza Mayor is one of the most popular resorts in the area…
